Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that his country strictly applies the Montreux Convention and firmly opposes the spread of wars in the region and the entry of new military ships into the Black Sea. Çavuşoğlu, in statements reported by the Anadolu Agency, said: "We have called and continue to call on the parties to establish contacts, as Ankara enjoys excellent relations with both states (Russia and Ukraine), which is why we have not supported sanctions, but we certainly reject war and strictly adhere to the requirements of the Montreux Convention." He added: "We have gone further by calling as a NATO member for dialogue with Moscow," emphasizing that "Ankara opposes the escalation of wars in the region as well as the entry of new military ships into the Black Sea."
