Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv today, Wednesday, to discuss the agenda for a NATO summit as Ukraine seeks to join the alliance. Zelensky intensified his calls on Tuesday for Ukraine to receive a "political invitation" to join NATO at the summit to be hosted by Lithuania on July 11 and 12.
NATO member states are approaching an agreement to take gradual steps to strengthen relations with Ukraine by the time of the Vilnius summit, but they still need to resolve differences on how to address Ukraine's desire for membership. Nausėda will then head to Brussels to attend a summit of EU leaders on Thursday and Friday.
