Three people have died and 17 others have been injured due to a powerful wave that struck a beach in Durban, South Africa. Robert McKenzie, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal regional emergency services, stated, "There was a strange wave that pushed some people into the sea, three drowned, and 17 were taken to the hospital." He added that one of the deceased is a child about seven or eight years old, and the injured are "in serious or critical condition." Emergency services expressed fears that the death toll could rise, noting that 35 rescue workers participated in "mass rescue efforts."
