Kosovo Seeks to Reduce Tensions in the North

The government of Kosovo has indicated that it will reduce the presence of police forces in the northern region to lower tensions there, as hostilities between Albanians and Serbs have reached a peak since the declaration of independence in 2008. NATO confirmed that "93 peacekeeping soldiers were seriously injured during clashes with Serbian protesters on May 29." Approximately 52 Serbs were also injured. The government will not take any actions that would escalate the conflict in the north, which includes reducing police presence by a quarter within and around municipal buildings.
