A research center in Kyiv noted that the recovery of agricultural production in Ukraine from the effects of the Russian war could take 20 years or more for some sectors. The Kyiv School of Economics stated in a report, "According to modeling results, some sectors will not reach pre-war levels even after seven years of peace." It predicted the recovery of agricultural production areas such as sunflower, barley, and wheat by 2040, while the recovery of corn, rye, oats, and canola seed would occur by 2050. The report added, "This means it may take 20 years for Ukraine to regain its agricultural strength after the destruction caused by Russian military aggression." The Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture reported that grain and oilseed harvests in 2021 before the invasion amounted to 106 million tons, but production could drop to about 65 million tons in 2023.
