Lebanese actor Wissam Faris has been released after being detained by Lebanese security forces following a scuffle with a police officer at the vehicle registration office in Nahr El-Mot, Beirut last Wednesday.
Several Lebanese artists had called for Faris's release after reports suggested he would remain in custody until next Tuesday awaiting a decision from the public prosecutor. Actor Bassem Moughnieh tweeted, "My friend actor Wissam Faris has been in jail for two days despite the physical and moral harm and injustice he has endured. Yes, he is a victim; I know what I'm saying and understand the details. Please, I urge those concerned to take action."
Lebanese journalist Elie Merheb also revealed Wissam Faris's release in a tweet, stating, "Wissam Faris has been released after the Nahr El-Mot incident. Congratulations on your freedom, man."
