Gas Crisis on the Horizon?

The President of the Union of Workers and Distributors in the Gas and Its Requirements Sector in Lebanon, Farid Zainoun, expressed in a statement his objection to "Energy Minister Walid Fayyad's continued failure to issue the pricing schedule early in the morning, which creates chaos and confusion in the gas distribution market and causes losses for distributors."

Zainoun considered "this indifference towards the people's and state's needs aggravates citizens' suffering, instead of working to serve them and facilitate their daily matters," confirming "that the solutions are simple, but Minister Fayyad refuses to work on them for reasons unknown to us."

He noted "that this situation has become unacceptable and calls for the intervention of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the MPs to hold Fayyad accountable for his inaction in fulfilling his administrative duties and his failure to ease the matters of those working in this sector, especially since he oversees a General Directorate of Oil that simply needs to be instructed to issue the pricing schedule early in the morning."

Zainoun concluded by warning: "We await, for the last time, the necessary resolution of this issue, or else we will be forced to announce a general strike on gas distribution in all regions."
