Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed his strong satisfaction with the recent developments in the Saudi-Iranian relations file, affirming that Lebanon automatically supports any consensual path in the region, particularly when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is involved, given its Arab and Islamic weight and its extensive regional influence. Mikati stated that the relief resulting from this path should positively reflect on the entire region, including Lebanon.
He added that he supports the words of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan regarding the presidential file, saying, "As Lebanese, we must not wait for external forces; we must fulfill our duty to elect a president, build institutions, and begin addressing our numerous and significant problems."
Prime Minister Mikati warned that Lebanon cannot endure the crisis for long, stating, "I have previously warned before assuming the premiership that the measures taken are temporary, and the crisis has reached a critical point that could explode at any moment. We must expedite the required structural reforms before the crisis worsens and reaches a point of no return."
Mikati noted that the map for a solution that must be implemented quickly to save the economy and prevent a comprehensive social collapse has become clear. He said, "We have no choice but to carry out the necessary reforms and cooperate with the International Monetary Fund, which serves as the available door for obtaining international support for Lebanon." He hoped that "the presidential vacancy would not last too long and that all political components would agree to accomplish this entitlement as soon as possible, as the country without a president will continue to suffer from a fundamental structural imbalance that temporary solutions cannot compensate for."
