Assassination of Deputy Governor in Badakhshan, Afghanistan by Car Bomb

The spokesperson for Badakhshan province confirmed that "a car bomb exploded in the province today, Tuesday, resulting in the death of the deputy governor and several fatalities, in northern Afghanistan." The head of the media office for the province, Maazuddin Ahmadie, stated that "the explosion targeted the provincial governor. Nasar Ahmad Ahmadie and his driver were killed, and 6 civilians were injured." It is not yet clear which group carried out the bombing, marking it the first major attack reported in Afghanistan in weeks.
