Filipino toy maker David Tan receives many orders from pet owners who have lost their animals, wanting to commemorate their friends—dogs, cats, rabbits, and hamsters—by creating plush replicas of them. Tan and a team of 20 employees use the photos sent by clients to create exact replicas of their deceased pets, utilizing synthetic fur that is dyed to recreate the animals' colors and features. Tan explained that "the process is different from taxidermy, which preserves the animal's body." Each plush toy costs approximately 3,500 pesos (65 US dollars). Gaja Lazarte, a 38-year-old dog lover, considers it "a price worth paying to memorialize beloved pets."
