Emergency services officials in India announced that the death toll from a landslide in the western state of Maharashtra has risen to 22 as of today, Friday, after six more bodies were recovered from the mud before rescue operations were suspended. Rescue teams resumed searching for survivors today after a massive landslide occurred in western India, resulting in the death of 16 people and is believed to have trapped more than 100 people under the debris. In a statement to Reuters, Atul Karwal, Director General of the National Disaster Response Force, said: "Rescue teams recovered 16 bodies before nightfall, and local authorities advised them to suspend the search operation." He added: "It is not safe to search for people in the dark in such an area," expressing hope of finding survivors.
