United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his concern today, Monday, regarding the ethnic dimension of violence in Sudan's West Darfur state. He warned that attacks on civilians based on their ethnic affiliations "could amount to crimes against humanity." During an event aimed at raising funds for UN humanitarian operations in Sudan, Guterres stated, "I am particularly worried about reports of sexual and gender-based violence, as well as the ethnic dimension of violence in Geneina." He added, "Violence against aid workers and attacks on civilian infrastructure and humanitarian supplies must stop."
