Doctors Without Borders announced that their rescue ship responded to a distress call during its voyage in the Mediterranean and rescued over 400 migrants off the coast of Malta in a 11-hour operation. The humanitarian organization tweeted on Wednesday, stating, "After the ship (Geo Barents) received the distress signal, it reached the boat filled with migrants amidst bad weather, after more than 10 hours of navigation through rough seas." They added, "Unfortunately, the weather did not allow our team to conduct the rescue directly for fear of endangering the lives of the people and the lives of the Doctors Without Borders crew." The organization reported that "after more than 11 hours, the rescue operation ended, and a total of 440 people, including 8 women and 30 children, are safe aboard (Geo Barents) receiving care from its crew."
