The Dean of the Maronite General Council, Wadi' Al-Khazen, contacted Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Richard Gallagher, thanking him for "the efforts he is making for Lebanon," and wishing him to convey his congratulations to "His Holiness Pope Francis on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his election as head of the Holy See." He expressed hope that "all Lebanese will follow the example of Pope Francis, coming together rather than apart, reconciling instead of competing," calling on lawmakers and officials to "respond to the calls of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri for consultation and dialogue, to avoid wasting time and prolonging the vacancy in the presidency, and to make the upcoming parliamentary session a pivotal moment in the process of electing a new president of the republic, and to embark on the path of restructuring constitutional institutions so that the nation can regain its pulse and the people can reclaim their normal lives."
