UK Supreme Court Rejects Lawsuit Against British Government Decision

The Supreme Court in London has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Campaign Against Arms Trade opposing a British government decision that allegedly permitted the illegal sale of arms to Saudi Arabia. The campaign pointed out that the British government incorrectly decided to resume issuing new licenses for exporting military equipment to Saudi Arabia in 2020, which could be used in the Yemen war. Judges Andrew Popplewell and Andrew Henshaw stated in their ruling that "the British government's analysis of potential violations of international humanitarian law by Saudi Arabia was reasonable." Campaign spokesperson Emily Apple described the decision as disappointing but added that "the ruling revealed the truth that the government’s arms export licensing system is incredibly lenient."
