Russian forces intensified their attacks on cities along the front line in eastern Ukraine on Monday, while Ukrainian officials downplayed reports suggesting that Kyiv is altering some of its plans for a counteroffensive due to the leak of classified U.S. documents. Kyiv stated that the Russians are shelling Ukrainian positions around the besieged city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region, as well as other towns and cities with airstrikes and artillery fire. The head of the Moscow-controlled part of Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, indicated that "Russian forces now control 75 percent of the city." This small city, located on the edge of a large area of Russian-controlled territory in Donetsk, has been the largest battleground in the war, which has entered its second year. The Russian army is also targeting the city of Avdiivka.
