Fire at Restaurant in Madrid Caused by Pizza Dish

Spanish emergency services announced today, Saturday, that two people were killed and 12 others were injured after a fire broke out in an Italian restaurant in the capital, Madrid. The fire erupted late last night at the restaurant "Boro Canalia Bar and Risto" in the Salamanca neighborhood. The mayor of Madrid, Luis Martínez Almeida, told reporters today in front of the building that one of the deceased was an employee of the restaurant and the other was a customer. A witness told the newspaper "El País" that the incident occurred when a waiter used an alcoholic substance and a source of fire to add a touch to a pizza dish before serving it, causing flames to spread to the walls and ceiling. Emergency services reported that restaurant patrons struggled to escape as the fire ignited near the main exit. Spanish police are investigating the cause of the fire.
