Successful Cesarean Birth for a Saudi Mother with an Artificial Heart Pump

A medical team at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre successfully performed a cesarean delivery without complications for a 32-year-old patient living with an artificial heart pump as a bridge until a suitable donor is available for a heart transplant. The mother had severe heart muscle weakness, necessitating the implantation of an artificial assistive pump. Upon discovering her pregnancy, she was referred to "Specialized Hospital in Riyadh" for necessary healthcare according to a treatment plan devised for all stages of pregnancy, with an early delivery date set to avoid any complications, including managing the performance of the artificial heart pump as per the needs of each stage.

The patient received continuous healthcare upon her hospital admission, provided by a comprehensive medical team comprising seven specialties. The cesarean delivery took place at the 32nd week of pregnancy, after which the mother was transferred to intensive care to monitor her health condition and subsequently moved to the hospital's heart ward. The newborn's condition was overseen by the neonatal intensive care team, with both mother and baby enjoying good health.
