The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Friday that the United States has imposed new sanctions related to Iran, targeting the technology company "Arvan Cloud," two employees, and an affiliated company due to their roles in assisting Tehran with internet censorship in the country.
The ministry stated that "Arvan Cloud" has close ties with Iranian intelligence, and its executives have connections with senior officials in the Iranian government, noting that the two targeted individuals are Bouya Pirahmadi and Farhad Fatemi, co-founders of Arvan Cloud.
The sanctions also targeted Arvankloud Global Technologies, an affiliated company based in the UAE. The Treasury Department's statement said, "The Iranian government has consistently used internet restrictions and throttling speeds to suppress dissent, monitor Iranians, and punish them for exercising their freedom of expression and assembly both online and offline."
