Death of a Man and Woman in Explosion in Northern Spain

The Security Department of the Basque Government in Spain reported today, Tuesday, that "an explosion in the town of Orio in the north of the country resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman." A spokesperson for the department explained that "the explosion occurred at 5:30 PM, and at that time there were no indications of injuries to other individuals." The local newspaper "Diario Vasco" stated that "authorities in the town are investigating the incident as a potential gender-based violence act." Spanish news agency sources quoted police saying, "the preliminary investigation indicated that the source of the explosion was a package in the possession of one of the victims."
