Title: "Capital Control" Postponed to Next Year

Title:

The joint committees held a session yesterday to discuss the "capital control" file, which has been postponed to the new year. This session is part of a series of ongoing meetings that the committees have held to study this law, without reaching any concrete results after more than three years into the financial crisis. Meanwhile, questions are increasing regarding the law's efficacy after all this time and the underlying objectives that worry depositors.

Member of the "Lebanon Strong" bloc and the Finance and Budget Committee, MP Alan Aoun confirmed that the committees "examine each article individually, and the discussions are lengthy because the subject is sensitive; however, we hope to finish studying it by the end of January."

In an interview with the "Anbaa" electronic newspaper, Aoun addressed Thursday's session, stating: "We do not reject dialogue outright, but we want to create a more positive atmosphere that accompanies the dialogue. I generally support the idea of dialogue, and if this format has not succeeded, perhaps the formats should change to allow for bilateral discussions or others, but the relevant parties must communicate with one another."
