Japanese Nikkei Rises Supported by Gains in Shareholder Campaigns

The Japanese Nikkei index closed on Friday at its highest level in a year and a half, ending the session up 0.9% at 29,388.30 points. For the entire week, the index rose by 0.79%. The broader Topix index increased by 0.64% to 2,096.39 points, recording a weekly gain of 1%.

Mitsubishi Corp announced the continuation of shareholder rewards for the current fiscal year, either through increasing cash dividends, share buybacks, or both. Mitsubishi's stock dipped slightly by 0.02%, but it rose 6.3% over the week.
