Report: The Number of Illegal Migrants to Europe Has Doubled

A new report prepared by a European agency reveals that 50,000 illegal migrants entered the European continent via the Mediterranean Sea during the first five months of 2023. The European Border and Coast Guard Agency "Frontex," which prepared the report, stated that the number of illegal migrants entering Europe during this period is the highest since 2017. The French newspaper "Le Figaro" quoted the agency, noting that the number of migrants discovered entering EU countries via the Mediterranean has doubled this year compared to the same period last year. The central Mediterranean route is the main way to EU countries for more than half of the illegal migrants this year.
