A truck transporting oxygen containers exploded today, Thursday, in one of the streets of Milan, Italy, resulting in one injury and igniting nearby cars and motorcycles. Milan's mayor, Giuseppe Sala, ruled out the possibility of the explosion being the result of criminal activity, confirming that there were no fatalities. Sala stated that the truck driver informed the fire department that the fire had started in the engine of his vehicle. He added, "He quickly moved the oxygen containers he was carrying and tried to limit the damage, but then the explosion occurred."
Firefighting teams were able to extinguish the fire quickly, which had caused thick black smoke to rise. Witnesses reported that the fire seemed to spread to a nearby building that was evacuated. Authorities also evacuated a school in the vicinity of the incident.
