An Italian non-governmental organization's hospital in Kabul reported that at least two people were killed and 12 others injured in an explosion that occurred near the Afghan Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Stefano Sootsa, an official at the Italian NGO Emergency, which runs a trauma hospital for war victims in central Kabul, stated, "We received some injured individuals." The organization tweeted that at least one child is among the injured.
Sootsa indicated that the incident took place near the Foreign Ministry.
Spokespersons for the police, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not respond to requests for comment.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear.
Witnesses told Reuters that they heard a loud blast near an area surrounded by tight security, which contains several government buildings and foreign embassies.
