The Cannes Film Festival witnessed the world premiere of the documentary "Bread and Roses" by director Mani, which focuses on the daily lives of three women following the return of the Taliban to power. During the premiere, Mani stated, "This film carries a message from the women of Afghanistan, a soft message. Please relay their unheard voices under the Taliban's dictatorship." In an interview on the Cannes festival's website, she expressed her desire to show how women's lives have completely changed under Taliban rule, adding, "Now, as women can no longer leave the house without a hijab, I felt it was necessary to tell their stories." She continued, "The way their lives have changed under the Taliban is a daily reality for us; it is a life under a dictatorship and a bitter reality we cannot ignore."
