The CEO of Italian energy company Eni, Claudio Descalzi, stated on Wednesday that a proposed pipeline for transporting gas from the Eastern Mediterranean is "technically feasible," but it presents "many challenges." He noted before the Italian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee that "it is up to Israel and Cyprus to decide whether they will build a pipeline to transport their gas to Europe." Edison, an Italian unit of French utility EDF and Greek DEPA, is promoting what is called the Eastern Mediterranean-Poseidon pipeline, which will initially connect several gas fields off the coast of Israel to Greece and Italy.
