Bear Kills Young Man While Jogging in Italy

A bear killed a young man who was jogging in northern Italy, marking the first incident of its kind. Andrea Pabi, 26, was running in a mountainous forest area near his village in the Trentino region when he was attacked by the bear. Rescue units were deployed to search for the young man after his family reported to the police that he had not returned home. Andrea's body was found near his village, and it showed signs of deep injuries to the arms, neck, and chest. An autopsy concluded that a bear was responsible for his death. This is the first case of its kind resulting in a fatality since bears were reintroduced to the area more than two decades ago. Italian authorities have ordered the tracking of the bear with the intent to control it, deciding to kill it upon sighting. The National Animal Protection Association condemned the decision, stating that "humans are not targets for bears, as these animals show fear of people and keep a distance from them." Italy has between 120 and 200 bears residing specifically in Trentino and Abruzzo.
