Japanese authorities reported today, Thursday, that "fiery lines seen at night in southern Japan may be due to debris from a Chinese rocket." An official stated that "the Ishigaki branch of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan observed light streaks at 16:33 (11:33 UTC) on Wednesday evening. Based on available information, we believe these objects are not fireballs from meteors but rather debris from a rocket," noting that "the slow movement of this light resembles rocket debris entering the atmosphere." He added, "It may be debris from a rocket launched by China, with information indicating that a part of the rocket will re-enter the atmosphere," pointing out that "the debris likely fell into the ocean and poses no danger according to predicted trajectories it could have taken." Social media users in Japan shared videos showing what appeared to be fireballs, raising concerns among residents and internet users.
