The year 2023 commenced with promises of electricity that have been illusory for the past 14 years. Even the four hours of electricity supply mentioned by Minister of Energy Walid Fayyad seem uncertain. In this context, a data war erupted at night between the governmental palace, Fayyad, and his predecessor, former Minister Nada Boustany. This dispute highlights the extent of the tragedy that Lebanese people are experiencing in a sector that should be one of their most basic rights, allowing them to enjoy electricity. Instead, it has turned into their greatest curse, making them prisoners of darkness, generator bills, and the arduous search for alternative energy sources. This is not a promising start to the new year, while the possibility of convening another session for the caretaker government is still under consideration, particularly regarding the agenda and urgent items that must be included to justify its meeting.
