The Beijing Daily reported today, Tuesday, that 21 people died after a fire broke out in the eastern wing of a hospital in the Chinese capital. Authorities evacuated a total of 71 people after rescue efforts. One Weibo user stated, "This is a tragedy. I can see the incident from my balcony. Many people stood on the air conditioning unit in the afternoon and some jumped from it." Fires are rare occurrences in China. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
