A spokesperson for the European Commission announced today, Sunday, that unilateral actions by EU member states are unacceptable, following Poland and Hungary's announcement to impose a ban on imports from neighboring Ukraine to protect their agricultural sectors. The spokesperson stated in an email: "We are aware of Poland and Hungary's announcement to impose a ban on the import of grains and other agricultural products from Ukraine." He added: "In this regard, it is important to emphasize that trade policy is an exclusive competence of the European Union, and thus, unilateral actions are unacceptable."
