The Saudi Border Guard announced the thwarting of attempts to smuggle approximately 36 tons of the narcotic plant khat and 1.5 tons of hashish. The spokesperson for the General Directorate of Border Guard, Colonel Musfar Al-Quraini, stated that border guard patrols in the regions of Najran, Jazan, Asir, Tabuk, and the Eastern Province intercepted attempts to smuggle 36 tons and 481 kilograms of khat, 1 ton and 472 kilograms of hashish, and 29,572 pills subject to medical regulation.
