Hani Bahlali, the head of the Union of Food Importers, issued a statement today, Thursday, urging all officials to "take quick and national initiatives to end the crisis plaguing the country, and to swiftly elect a president for the republic and form a new government that takes upon itself the implementation of a comprehensive rescue and reform program, restoring the state, the economy, and the national currency." Bahlali continued, "A week before the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, we raise our voices to work on halting the unprecedented collapse of the national currency, which undermines all purchasing abilities of the Lebanese." He warned that "the continuation of this situation will affect the food security of the Lebanese due to their inability to obtain their food needs." He concluded, saying, "On the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, we pray for mercy to enter the hearts of all officials, to produce quick solutions that save the country and return it to its former state, and to create suitable conditions for fasting in Ramadan and for a comfortable life for the Lebanese."
