Foiled Attempt to Smuggle 5 Tons of Drugs in Morocco

Moroccan police in the security area of the Tangier Med Port thwarted an international smuggling attempt of 5 tons and 438 kg of hashish on a truck dedicated to international freight, in collaboration with customs authorities.

A statement from the National Security Directorate indicated that, according to preliminary investigation information, "joint border control measures carried out by national security and customs officers revealed the truck driver's attempt to use falsified export documents as he prepared to travel to Spain."

This necessitated a thorough search of the vehicle, using trained police dogs. The drugs were found stored inside specially designed cavities in the trailer and the truck's internal structure.

The suspect was placed under provisional detention.
