Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the Kingdom's contribution of $2.5 billion to support the Green Middle East initiative over the next 10 years. Bin Salman stated during the Climate Summit "COP 27" held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt: "The Kingdom aims to coordinate cooperation to implement plans and address common challenges." He added, "We aim to plant 10 billion trees and increase the number of terrestrial and marine protected areas to 30% of the total national area." He further noted, "We will rely on renewable energy to produce 50% of electricity by 2030."
