Units from the Lebanese army, intelligence, security forces, and riot control have implemented tight security measures this Wednesday morning in front of the United Nations office concerned with Syrian refugee affairs in the Jawaan area, in anticipation of demonstrations being prepared by Syrians, and to prevent any clashes. The issue of Syrian refugees was the focus of a meeting held by the ministerial committee, chaired by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, this afternoon at the Grand Serail, where he confirmed that "there are gangs smuggling Syrians illegally through Baalbek or Akkar into Lebanon, in exchange for huge sums of money, while the country can no longer bear the burdens of displacement."
