About ten thousand residents of the coastal city of Quebec in Canada were forced to evacuate their homes yesterday, Friday, as wildfires spread to more Canadian provinces, marking one of the worst starts to the wildfire season. The mayor of Quebec declared a state of emergency in the city due to the risks of wildfire outbreaks, which triggered evacuation orders in the area. Quebec Public Security Minister François Bonnardel stated that he reached out to the federal government to request military assistance. Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed in the western part of the country since early May, and troops were sent to Nova Scotia on Thursday. Aid has also come from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, with more assistance expected to arrive next week.
