U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris announced that the private sector will commit to injecting at least $7 billion in investments to enhance resilience, adaptation, and mitigation efforts related to climate across the African continent.
She added that "Washington will provide new federal funding and initiatives to promote the use of climate-related information services."
The private investments, from a group of 27 companies and organizations, will focus on promoting climate-smart agriculture in an attempt to address the impacts of climate change on the continent's food security.
This highlights that African countries contribute relatively little to the climate crisis, yet they face disproportionately severe damages from its effects.
Among some of the intervention measures are providing support and insurance coverage against severe weather events, solar-powered irrigation systems, fertilizers, and access to electronic facilities.
Additional funds will be directed towards clean and sustainable energy projects and clean transportation.
