Russia's Latest Submarines Head to a Base in the Pacific

Russia is continuously working to bolster its defenses in its eastern regions adjacent to Asia and the Pacific, where the United States is accused of expanding its presence, raising security concerns in Japan and across the region.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, on Wednesday, the latest nuclear-powered submarine equipped with ballistic missiles will transfer to a permanent base on the Kamchatka Peninsula in August, amid Moscow's efforts to strengthen its military presence in the Pacific. The submarine "Generalissimo Suvorov," which entered service at the end of 2022, can carry up to 16 Russian Bulava missiles with nuclear warheads. TASS reported that a source close to the military administration stated that the submarine "will undergo an internal transfer from the Northern Fleet (in the Arctic) to the Pacific Fleet in August." According to Russian agencies, the submarine is the sixth of the "Borey" class, smaller and stealthier submarines, which will replace the country's previous ballistic missile submarines.
