The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) noted on Thursday that it has suspended food aid to Ethiopia because its assistance is not reaching those in need. A spokesperson for the agency stated in a release that, in collaboration with the Ethiopian government, it has identified "a coordinated and widespread campaign to divert food aid away from the Ethiopian people." It added that it intends to resume food aid as soon as it is assured of the safety of the distribution system. The agency believes that food is being redirected to Ethiopian military units, according to internal documentation from a group of foreign donors seen by Reuters.
