Star Katy Perry infringed on the trademark of Australian fashion designer Kitty Taylor, based in Sydney, who sells her products locally under the name "Katy Perry." Fashion designer Kitty Taylor, who filed the lawsuit in 2019, indicated that "Katy Perry, who has a fashion line bearing her name, ignored the trademark and sold clothing to Australian customers during her concert tours in the country in 2014 and 2018 through retailers and websites."
A court document released yesterday, Thursday, revealed that "Federal Court Judge Bridget Markovich ruled that the company (Katy Perry) owned by singer Katy Perry partially infringed by promoting the singer's products in social media posts, violating the trademark of Australian fashion designer Kitty Taylor."
Kitty Taylor described the ruling as "a significant victory for small businesses." The amount of damages is set to be determined at a later time.
