Seven people were killed in an airstrike targeting an "Iranian refrigerated truck convoy" in eastern Syria late Sunday into Monday, shortly after it entered from neighboring Iraq, leading to its destruction, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Monday. The observatory noted that the trucks were carrying Iranian weapons. It reported the deaths of "seven truck drivers and their companions of non-Syrian nationalities" in the air raid carried out by "unknown aircraft," which struck the trucks in the countryside of Al-Bukamal in the eastern Deir ez-Zor region.
The observatory had previously announced that "six refrigerated trucks were attacked by unknown aircraft in the countryside of Al-Bukamal after crossing from Iraq."
Rami Abdel Rahman, the observatory's director, stated that "the trucks were transporting Iranian weapons." He mentioned that at least two similar convoys had entered from Iraq during the week, which unloaded their cargo in the city of Mayadin, suggesting they were transporting "advanced weapons" to groups loyal to Tehran.
