Egypt has begun efforts today, Wednesday, to mediate a ceasefire following two days of ongoing fighting across the border in the Gaza Strip, which has seen Israeli airstrikes targeting Islamic Jihad positions and rocket fire reaching as far as Tel Aviv. After Egyptian media circulated possibilities of success in achieving a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians, "Reuters" reported Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen stating that "Israel is considering an Egyptian proposal for a truce with militant groups in Gaza." However, Egyptian mediation faces a challenge due to a condition set by Palestinian factions, which is a halt to assassinations, a demand that the Israeli military establishment has rejected. Despite the escalation, there are two opinions: one suggests that the current violence precedes an agreement, while the other believes that conditions are worsening in light of reports of Egyptian anger over the evening escalation by the Israeli army.
