Germany: Two Killed in Shooting at a Mercedes Factory

Mercedes-Benz announced that two people were killed in a shooting at one of its factories in southwestern Germany on Thursday. The "Bild" newspaper quoted a police spokesman in Germany saying, "One person was killed and another injured in a shooting at the Mercedes-Benz factory in the south of the country."

The police confirmed on Twitter that "there is an ongoing operation at the factory," but did not mention any injuries. Mercedes confirmed the incident at the factory and stated that it is in contact with the authorities, saying in a statement: "We are in contact with the authorities and are trying to clarify the facts. The safety of our employees comes first." A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office stated that "investigators are examining the assumption that the shooter acted alone and that no outside individuals were involved in the incident."
