A spokesperson for the German Defense Ministry confirmed today, Saturday, that "Ukraine has requested Germany to supply it with Taurus cruise missiles, which are air-launched missiles with a range of approximately 500 kilometers." The spokesperson declined to disclose the likelihood of Germany approving the request.
If Germany agrees to the request, it would follow in the footsteps of the United Kingdom, which earlier this month became the first country to publicly supply Kyiv with long-range cruise missiles. The United States, however, has so far refused to supply Ukraine with a tactical missile system that has a range of 297 kilometers due to concerns that Ukraine might use it to strike targets within internationally recognized Russian territory.
