Former Sudanese Official Leaves Kober Prison

Former Sudanese official in Omar al-Bashir’s regime, Ahmed Haroun, stated on Tuesday that he has "left Kober prison with other former officials and that they will provide protection for themselves." He added in an audio statement broadcast by Tayba TV: "He and the other former officials are ready to appear before the judiciary when called upon." This statement comes after reports indicated that "inmates at Kober prison escaped earlier this week." Al-Bashir and his senior deputies were among those held in this prison. It is not immediately clear whether al-Bashir, who has spent long periods in a military hospital, was present in the prison.
