Eastern Libyan forces have recently expelled thousands of Egyptians residing illegally in the country, sending them back to Egypt on foot across the land border between the two countries. A Libyan security source stated that "the forces found four thousand migrants during raids on human traffickers following a gunfight between security forces and traffickers," noting that all of them were deported. The Libyan source indicated that the security forces destroyed a harbor used by human traffickers. An Egyptian security source reported that "about 2,200 migrants out of the four thousand found by Libyan security forces were illegally present in Libya and were deported." He added that most of those deported were Egyptians, while some held other African nationalities.
