In France: Thousands of Students at Risk of Cancer

Demands have resurfaced in France to demolish all buildings and schools constructed with asbestos, which is a carcinogenic material, that are still in operation despite being banned for 20 years. More than 20 years after the ban on asbestos, thousands of schools still house this hazardous insulating material. A search engine has been provided to find out the situation in your school.

In this context, Louis Boyard, a deputy from the "France Unbowed" movement, has submitted a request to Parliament for the urgent establishment of an investigative committee to address the issue, particularly since it concerns more than 71,000 students who are all at risk of developing cancer. It has been revealed that 710,000 children may be exposed to asbestos in schools, and these students could potentially develop cancer in the future.

On June 8, authorities in France began dismantling a building found to contain three times the normal level of asbestos. Previously, university students received emails from the administration indicating the closure of various buildings on campus due to the discovery of carcinogenic materials.
