On Monday, the Russian news agency "Interfax" reported that the Russian Federal Security Service stated it had "foiled an attempt to assassinate the Moscow-appointed governor of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov." The agency's statement mentioned that a Russian man, who had been hired and trained by Ukrainian security services to kill Aksyonov by blowing up his car, was detained. It added: "His plan was to blow up Aksyonov's car, but he was arrested while trying to retrieve an explosive device from a hideout." Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and the Russian Black Sea Fleet is stationed in the area.
